A WIDE range of professions were represented at an “inspirational” careers fair staged by a Darlington primary school.
The event was staged by Corporation Road Primary School, which is part of Lingfield Education Trust, and is now set to become an annual event.
The emergency services, armed forces, the law, arts, media, the financial sector, civil service, design and education were all represented at the fair.
However, the star of the show may have been labrador, Jet, who was part of the team on the Durham Constabulary stall.
The school’s pastoral lead, Steven Brack, wrote to the exhibitors afterwards, saying: “Please do not underestimate the impact and impression you have made on our children today – they have not stopped talking about it all day.
“It has really opened their eyes as to what they can go on to do in life and some of your real in-depth conversations have really inspired them. It has made things that they’ve heard about and seen in a book very real for them.
“This experience is invaluable for these children, some of whom that will never have heard of your job roles and industries. Thank you for engaging with them the way that you did. It was such a success that I don’t think we can afford not to run something similar each year.”
Nick Blackburn, chief executive of Lingfield Education Trust, said: “It was a joy to see our pupils engaging so confidently and happily with such a wide range of professional people and asking searching questions about the jobs they do.”
Pupils were able to wear emergency service uniforms and try their hand at flying a drone, as well as taking pictures using professional equipment.
Organisations attending were: The Royal Navy, Rebecca Pennock Design, Durham Constabulary, Latimer Hinks Solicitors, Darlington Economic Campus, Darlington Hippodrome, Darlington College, County Durham & Darlington Fire & Rescue Service, Prism Financial Advice, Barron Media, Darlington FC Foundation, and Lingfield Education Trust.
